Geologists confirm today that strata of the earth are indeed graveyards, keepers of history, and have been in existence for billions of years. Enormous rock masses push high up above the surface of the ocean as fast as they are being worn down, nothing visible today will remain on the earth surface in the deep future. The earth-interior is a treasure trove of strata, and keeps stories of past landscapes, but they are geologically impermanent, continually in motion, a motion which plays a crucial role in maintaining and regulating stable conditions for life on this planet. What we put into the earth today is a message to a future past.
